FACILITIES SPECIALIST I

Under general supervision of the Finance Officer. Coordinates both routine and emergency facility maintenance as required, to include, but not limited to carpentry, drywall, minor electrical, painting, plastering, minor plumbing, and minor roofing in support of the Agency Program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Maintains facilities to include Head Start/Early Head Start based on state regulations, licensing regulations and Head Start Performance Standards. 
2. Exercises sound judgment uses proper care and safety practices in the handling and use of equipment, materials as well as tools to complete tasks. 
3.  Coordinates minor and major repairs and construction.
4. Prepares various reports and logs including equipment maintenance, work reports, materials usage reports, hand tools inventory, etc.
5. Coordinates the installation, removal, and repair tasks for carpeting, doors, drywall, plastering, shelving, tile, walls, and windows, as necessary of large projects. 
6.  Coordinates painting of interior and exterior surfaces as required of large projects.
7. Performs duties of installation and/or removal of repair tasks to include painting, plumbing, and electrical. 
8.  Monitors facilities and equipment, participates in planning annual maintenance projects. 
9.  Performs other duties as may be assigned within state and federal guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A. ENTRY:

1. High school graduate with at least five years of a variety of maintenance work experiences or an equivalent combination of education and work experiences; multi-skilled in a variety of repairs (carpentry, painting, drywall, plumbing and electrical); must be able to work independently; demonstrate proficiency in the use of a variety of power, hydraulic and electronic equipment, tools associated with general maintenance work; and ability to travel throughout the Agency’s service area using an Agency or personal vehicle.
2.  Must be able to work outside, on rooftops, climb, crawl, bend, stoop and must be able to work in confined spaces. 
3.  Ability to communicate both orally and in writing in the development of required logs and reports as well as some basic computer skills (data entry and retrieval). 
4.  Possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license with good driving record with reliable transportation. 
5.  Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
6. Must be able to pass drug screen, health assessment/TB test, SLED and FBI criminal background checks, and Central Registry Check.

B. DESIRABLE:

1. Associates Degree in Mechanical Maintenance.
2. Working knowledge and competency in carpentry, electrical, and plumbing trades. 
3.  One year of supervisory experience in directing subordinates on projects. 
4.  Ability to comprehend and follow blueprints/plans/specifications.
